Ellex Delivers Ultrasound Education To ESCRS Delegates

Ellex Medical, a manufacturer and distributor of ophthalmic technology for use in the fight against blindness, today announced that it will host its 8th European Ultrasound Training Course during the upcoming XXX Meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in Milan, Italy, on Friday, 7 September.

First used to image the eye in the 1950s, ultrasound has evolved to become one of the most essential imaging technologies in ophthalmology. With the ability to be performed in the presence of both opaque and clear media, ophthalmic ultrasound is a fundamental tool for use by ophthalmologists in the diagnosis of ocular conditions.

The 8th European Eye Cubed Ultrasound Course, which is open to all ophthalmologists attending the ECSRS, will feature Michele Figus, MD, a leading ophthalmologist and experienced Eye Cubed™ user from the University of Pisa, Italy, and industry veteran Rhonda Waldron, MMSc, COMT, CRA, ROUB, CDOS, USA.

Covering the fundamentals of ophthalmic ultrasound the course will illustrate key technical principles, including the use of high-resolution B-Scan imaging for the posterior segment. In particular, Dr. Figus will demonstrate the use of the Eye Cubed’s real-time B-Scan to give a detailed view of changes in the vitreous cavity and retina. He will also highlight the benefits of UBM (ultrasound biomicroscopy) for evaluation of the anterior segment in IOL sizing, and in the diagnosis of glaucoma.

Ms. Waldron will instruct participants on how to obtain accurate measurements of the eye prior to implantation of intra-ocular lenses (IOLs).

In parallel with the 8th European Eye Cubed Ultrasound Course, Ellex will also sponsor a number of educational ultrasound courses as part of the European Society of Ophthalmic Nurses and Technicians (ESONT) program, held in conjunction with the XXX Meeting of ESCRS.

All courses will include hands-on clinical sessions with the Company’s leading Eye Cubed™ diagnostic ultrasound technology.
