Ellex To Showcase Advanced Laser And Imaging Technologies In Milan

Ellex Medical, a manufacturer and distributor of ophthalmic technology for use in the fight against blindness, today announced that it will showcase its industry-leading laser and imaging technologies at the upcoming XXX Meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).

Held in Milan, Italy, from 7-11 September, ESCRS is the preeminent ophthalmic meeting in Europe, designed to advance ophthalmic techniques and practices throughout the region, and attracts more than 6,000 of the industry’s elit ophthalmologists.

Ellex will showcase its leading selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) technology for the treatment of glaucoma at the ESCRS meeting, with the Tango™ SLT/YAG combination laser available for hands-on demonstrations.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide and is estimated to affect more than 60 million.

First introduced in 2005, the Tango™ is Ellex’s flagship laser system. Combining a full-featured SLT laser and a precise YAG laser for performing iridotomy, the Tango™ allows ophthalmologists to treat both primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG).

“The Tango features Ellex’s unique all-in-one laser/slit lamp design,” commented Ellex CEO, Tom Spurling,

“With a proprietary dual-mode laser cavity to allow ophthalmologists to instantly switch between SLT and photodisruptor modes, the Tango™ is designed to provide optimal treatment outcomes.”

Gentle and non-invasive, SLT has become a therapy of choice for glaucoma management. This advanced, non-thermal therapy stimulates a natural healing response to manage the elevated IOP associated with glaucoma. SLT is a highly effective approach for first-line glaucoma treatments, as adjunct therapy with drugs, and as alternative therapy when drugs or surgery fail.

In addition to showcasing its advanced laser and ultrasound technologies, Ellex will host a number of educational events during ESCRS, including:

  • EuroTimes Satellite Education Symposium
“Nanopulse Laser Innovations: from SLT to vitreous to retina”
    Saturday, 8 September
  • 8th European Eye Cubed Ultrasound Training Course
    Friday, 7 September
